Career Tips: Stay sane in a busy workplace

Americans are stressed at work, that's no surprise. The CDC's National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health has found that between 29-40% of Americans consider themselves very stressed at work.

Patient care is fast-paced no matter what setting you work in, whether you're in a hospital or outpatient clinic. But it can be especially stressful for travel therapists who are coming into a new practice every couple of months.

Work doesn't have to be stressful though. The article "How to Deal With Stress At Work" shares some simple, yet effective strategies for reducing stress at work.

  • Start your day off right. Start the day with good nutrition, proper planning and a positive attitude to combat stress the rest of the day.
  • Be clear on requirements. This is especially important for travel therapists. If you find yourself confused about your role, speak with your supervisor to go over expectations. This can relieve stress for both of you!
  • Stay organized. Planning ahead can greatly decrease stress at work. Staying organized helps you avoid clutter and be more efficient with your work.
  • Forget multi-tasking. Splitting your focus to complete too many tasks can be very stressful. Find the method that works best for you to achieve your daily goals.
  • Keep perfectionism in check. In a fast-paced busy environment, you may not be able to do everything perfectly and that can add to stress. Focus on doing your best and congratulating yourself. Your results will actually be better.
  • Listen to music on the drive home. Combating the stress of a long day at work with your favorite music on the drive home can make you less stressed when you get home and more prepared to enjoy your time off.
